Our Approach

When we enter any classroom often we find ourselves quite nervous and in some cases afraid of what others may think of us. This hinders our progression and our confidence.

At Pure Heart Dance, we aim to provide a space where people can feel welcomed, accepted and comfortable. We provide time and space for natural progression rather than striving for perfection constantly.

We also value encouragement. We know an encouraging word goes a long way, and for those in our elite training, we know it can be strenuous and stressful when there is a lack of encouragement. So, we strive to provide a training program that not only pushes our dancers to become the best they can be but one that also nurtures them as they mature as individuals and prepare for the professional world.

Details on classes:

Ballet

Classical ballet is a combination of discipline, elegance and strength. In this class we will focus on correct technique, posture and alignment whilst also giving you the greatest tips to enhance your core stability, turnout and overall execution. These classes are focused around an open style ballet class, primarily inspired by the Vaganova technique. Ballet class usually begins at the barre, then progresses to Centre work, Adage, Pirouettes and finishing off with Allegro which are our jumps. Classical ballet improves overall muscular strength and is great for improving overall health and fitness for the individual. Classical ballet is the technique base for all other styles of dance. Quality ballet training is highly recommended as a staple for every dancer’s training program.

Contemporary

In this class we begin with a stretch, floor work and then stand to do exercises including contemporary rolls, combinations and improvisation. We finish off class learning a dance to music. Contemporary dance is a style that is performed across the globe and is renowned for its unique and large encompassing variety of movement. It was developed during the mid twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the most dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world. Contemporary dance focuses on different techniques, shapes of the body and creating new dance movements.

Jazz

Jazz is a style that originated from the joyful social dancing found throughout the peak of the release of jazz music in the mid twentieth century. In this class our jazz style can vary from broadway to commercial jazz and everything in between! This is an upbeat class usually to pop music. The class begins with a stretch and some strength work, combinations from the corner learning the basic kicks, leaps and turns for jazz and finishes off learning a jazz styled routine to the teacher’s choice of music. Jazz, in its different forms, is a prominent dance style still used today in the entertainment industry.

Pointe Work

This class is for advanced female classical ballet students and is the final exciting step that advanced female dancers take in their training. Men don’t train to wear pointe shoes as professional ballet dancers, men are known for their incredibly strong legs and body with which you see them soar to great heights in their jumps and be able to lift female ballerina’s above their heads with just one hand.

Pure Heart Dance Free Movement

In this class we have a stretch, pray together, listen to Christian worship music and allow God to lead us into some free dance movement.
